Arthur Agatston, MD, FACC is an internationally recognized pioneer in coronary disease prevention. He worked with Dr. Warren Janowitz to develop the Agatston Score (CT Coronary Calcium Score), used throughout the world, and considered by most experts to be the single best predictor of a future heart attack.

Along with Dr. Khurram Nasir, he has helped establish the inaugural Arthur Agatston Preventive Cardiology Fellowship at Houston Methodist, Division of Cardiovascular Prevention and Wellness, DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center. Dr. Agatston is a clinical professor of medicine at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, a member of the ACC Nutrition Committee and maintains a private practice in Miami Beach with a focus on preventing heart attacks in high-risk patients.

Dr. Agatston has also published more than 400 scientific articles and frequently lectures on diet, cardiac imaging, and cardiovascular prevention. He authored the best-selling book The South Beach Diet and was named one of “Time 100” most influential people of 2004. He created his approach to healthy eating to help his patients improve their blood chemistries, lose weight, and prevent diabetes and heart disease. Today, The South Beach Diet and its companion books have more than 23 million copies in print worldwide. His latest book The Keto Friendly South Beach Diet incorporates new discoveries from the original principles of the famed low-carb diet.
